A Belt Scraper, also known as a Belt Cleaner, is an essential component in conveyor systems used to remove residual material from the conveyor belt after discharge. It plays a crucial role in maintaining belt cleanliness, improving efficiency, and preventing material buildup that can lead to operational issues.
Belt scrapers are typically installed at the head pulley, where the material is discharged. As the belt passes over the pulley, a scraper blade made of materials like polyurethane, rubber, or metal comes into contact with the belt surface and removes any leftover material sticking to it. This ensures that the belt returns clean for the next cycle.
There are mainly two types of belt scrapers: Primary Scrapers, Secondary Scrapers and V Scrapers. Primary scrapers are positioned directly at the head pulley and remove the bulk of the material, while secondary scrapers are installed further along the return side to clean any remaining fines and improve overall efficiency.
The use of belt scrapers helps in reducing material carryback, which can otherwise cause spillage, increased wear on idlers and pulleys, and additional maintenance requirements. By keeping the belt clean, scrapers also enhance safety by minimizing dust generation and preventing material accumulation along the conveyor structure.
